Footprints

If I walked a dusty path

would footprints stand where I had been?

If I carried down this road

Would knowledge know that I had been?

Would shadows fall?

Would voices call?

Do time and space a ghost embrace?

Would eyes have seen?

    Would sounds have heard?

Just silence breathed into the wind

The dust just settles, footprints gone

If, at all, they’d ever been
