MASK

We’re all reaching out with our hearts to each other
Trying to connect one way or another
Whether we see a soul through their eyes
Look past the mask, the secret disguise

Glance at a voice we all recognise
No longer hidden behind that disguise
Sometimes it feels like our fingers don’t touch
Sometimes the heartache holds back just too much

Arms opened up or tight as a ball
I think each of us has seen it all
Our masks and disguises hide what is real
Searching, breathlessly, trying to heal

How can we open to trust what is true?
How do we show what we already knew?
Flying up high with wings on our backs
A gentle escape from the dark monster’s trap

Shadows that dance on the walls of our cave
Searching light to blind us, or can it save?
I feel my heart beating so deep inside
Thumping so loudly I cannot hide

Is it fact or just fiction engulfing my mind?
Dreams I am dreaming are hard to find
Physically being a touch of the senses
Sensory reaching into my defences

Imagined or real it can all be true
Finding out what’s me or what’s really you.
